A4
Response
This
process was a great way to sum up everything we have done over the course of
the semester. Our group (Kate, Adam, Maddie, Michael, me) clicked and we were
able to get our work done quickly and efficiently. When A4 was first assigned,
we went through possible ideas: filming frat row, doing a song, interviewing
random people, etc. Together we came up with the idea “Shit Feminists Don’t
Say” because it would be perfect to comically portray the theory and concepts
we have covered in class. We started out with a Facebook thread and
brainstormed together. Within the span of a couple hours, we had around sixty
quotes we could use in our video.
We
narrowed the quotes down to the most important and funniest and began filming.
We arbitrarily assigned quotes as appropriate to people and situations, which
worked out because everyone appeared equally in the video. It was nice having
Kate filming and editing the video because the rest of us could just worry
about saying the quotes. It was entertaining watching the bloopers while she
edited the video.
I
feel like I am a “dumb ditzy valley girl” in this video. I used a super
“feminine” voice that came off as unintelligent and very anti-feminist. Though
it may be over-the-top, I think it was a valid supplement to the video’s
overall message. Our personas reflect the kind of ignorance that people exhibit
when they are uneducated about feminism. There is no one specific definition of
feminism; you make it what you believe it to be.
