Hey she's kinda hot...wait that's a dude?

Prior to watching this episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, I had never been exposed to the concept of drag. I saw it as a bunch of dudes just dressing up as chicks. After the episode, I was shocked by how convincing their performances were. Of course, some of the contestants obviously looked like guys due to their facial structure, etc. However, there were a few like Kenya Michaels where it was near impossible to tell at first glance.

Without their makeup and outfits, they basically are dudes! In fact, during the introductions, each contestant refers to his drag self in the third person. It was as if the individual strutting on the runway was of a different essence than the one that was speaking in front of the camera.

Therefore, when I saw the guys without makeup, it was mindblowing. One quote in particular stuck out to me, "She went from looking like Aretha Franklin to looking like Biggie Smalls." It had me thinking that you can dress any guy in a similar fashion and he could potentially pull it off. Of course, even without the outfits, the contestants still act sassy and feminine. RuPaul is in his suit and tie and thick-rimmed glasses for much of the episode, yet he still speaks in a high-pitched, eccentric voice. You cannot classify these drag queens in a single gender. I feel like in this situation, it's appropriate to refer to them as "he" or "she".
